Carnarvon Gorge

Driving into Carnarvon National Park just south of Emerald in Queensland.

The 5.4km walk into the gorge.  Worse still, the 5.4km walk out!

Aboriginal cave paintings reportedly 9,000 years old.  The indigenous tribes who lived in the Gorge fought vehemently to retain it because they realised the value of a never ending supply of water, but of course, the white settlers prevailed and nowadays, the only indigenous people left in the area work as Park Rangers.

The land that time forgot.  Ferns and palms that existed in prehistoric time. The water is artesian and flows continously from the ground from the Great Australian Artesian Basin.

A TRULY MAGNIFICENT PLACE AND WELL WORTH THE WALK IN!
